Safe Driving Tips for Spring

As Spring begins, flowers bloom and snow melts, our road conditions go through a drastic change that you must be ready for! Here are some driving tips for you to keep you driving safely and protectively.

1. Spring showers bring May flowers - and wet driving conditions.

Slow down on slick roads, and increase your following distance even when mist begins to fall. Just a small amount of water can mix with oil and grease on the road to create slippery conditions.

2. Share the road!

Spring brings out pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists!

3. Avoid Pot Holes.

Pot holes are notorious especially after a harsh winter like this particular one. Pot holes are caused by moisture from the snow seeping into the pavement and then melting which causes the pavement to expand and contract creating a cater in the road. Make sure to really be careful when driving and be on the look out for these lunar-esque beasts as they can do some serious damage to your car!

4. Make sure your tires are properly inflated.

Going along with the transitional driving conditions and the erratic change in temperature can effect the pressure of your tires greatly! But be sure that you are not over filling your tires as this can cause them to burst and that damage your car and rims greatly.

5. Replace your Windshield Wipers.

Typically the winter is a season where your windshield wipers suffer heavy use! Spring is also a season that does have the potential for a lot of rain, so be sure that you are getting the maximum visibility out of your windshield with a fresh pair of wiper blades!

6. Understand how medications can impact your driving ability.

For many people, Spring means seasonal allergies. Over-the-counter allergy drugs can have side effects or interact with other medications to diminish your driving ability.

...And remember, even the best and most alert drivers can get into auto accidents. Be careful and enjoy Spring, and if you do find yourself in an accident, make sure to contact Sprague's Collision Center for your (free) estimate, repair and rental vehicle!
